How does a lie detector test work?
On the trail of the truth with today’s technology
The polygraph is a device that is very easy to use and delivers reliable results.
It is a polygraph that, using the supplied computer software – which requires no special technical knowledge – lets anyone expose lies. The device was originally developed for detectives, employers and even parents who want to get to the bottom of a suspicion in a humane way and reveal the truth quickly and easily. However, thanks to its intuitive operation, a lie detector test can also be carried out by a layperson – after a certain amount of familiarization.
- Reveal lies without pain and without psychological strain
- Evaluate and analyze the answers quickly and easily
- No prior technical knowledge is required for successful use!
How does a lie detector test work?
First of all, you need a comfortable room where the test can be carried out undisturbed and in comfort.
The cooperation of the person being questioned is an important part of the test – and perhaps the most difficult step. In job interviews or complex misunderstandings, a lie detector can help you get to the truth quickly and easily and find out to what extent the person can be considered trustworthy. You spare yourself months of conflict and possible arguments. The person being questioned should definitely be made aware of these aspects before the questioning.
A lie detector test is carried out as follows: The measuring elements are attached to the fingers or the breastbone of the person being questioned. This measures heart rate and skin moisture, which are important indicators for determining stress levels. Most people can hardly control these biochemical values, no matter how good they are at lying.
Then the questions are asked. It is advisable to ask closed questions, since they can only be answered with yes or no, which intensifies and increases the stress factor. The measured values are sent via a USB cable to the polygraph software and evaluated on the computer. Thanks to the clear display on the monitor, the questioner can immediately see when the statements of the person being questioned deviate from the normal values. It is important to mention that the software only works reliably with closed questions. Tests have shown that delayed answers are not evaluated 100% correctly. To avoid misunderstandings or additional conflicts, you should ask simple questions prepared in advance. The software is compatible with Windows.
How to carry out a test successfully?
Think it through clearly first, then carry it out in a relaxed way
The most important thing is to get to know the device before the actual questioning.
It is worth carrying out a few tests of your own before using it for the first time, so you can see how the polygraph works in the first place. The questions should also be compiled in advance and, of course, must not be known to the person being questioned. Then you have to make sure that the circumstances are right. It is not advisable to be disturbed during the test, and the person being questioned must be able to relax.
- Get to know the lie detector before using it
- Think up and word targeted, simple closed questions in advance
- Calm surroundings should prevail during the questioning
How to carry out questioning successfully
Successful questioning is a carefully thought-out program that has been planned over a longer period of time. It needs 4 elements: a lie detector, the competence of the questioner, the cooperation of the person being questioned and a calm environment.
The questioner who carries out the lie detector test does not need any special technical knowledge to use the lie detector, but it is worth already knowing the polygraph, operating it without hesitation and attaching the measuring devices to the person being questioned with a steady hand. This conveys trust and confidence.
The questioner must also pay attention to the mental state of the person being questioned. This is an important psychological point. The person being questioned should slowly “get acquainted” with the lie detector. The easiest way to achieve this is to ask simple, harmless questions at the beginning, such as “What is your name?”, “Is it winter now?” and so on.
Meanwhile, you can see the evaluation of the measuring devices on the monitor – how the affirmative and negative answers are displayed on the chart.
After the warm-up phase, when you are ready, the relevant questions can follow. A lot of patience and caution is advisable. You can gradually ask more and more questions, which increases the agitation of the person being questioned. But you must not go too far! The aim of questioning with the polygraph is to reveal the truth under calm circumstances and not to trigger a possible argument, which is more typical of “old-fashioned” questioning. In any case, you should pay attention to the body language and choice of words of the person being questioned. These are signals that the lie detector does not record, but which can contribute to the success of the questioning.

Polygraph beats body language
Control over our body is increasingly coming into focus today. Whether in a job interview or a presentation, you need to have full control over your body and your charisma and use the right body language to win sympathy and achieve success.
Drama schools and various courses offer the opportunity to learn useful tricks for skillfully hiding stress, fear, insecurity or nervousness and covering them up with self-confidence and humor. Control over your own facial expressions and gestures is the best equipment for masking the truth. Many fraudsters and liars are able to deceive even the most experienced judges of character. But not the lie detector and the lie detector test that goes with it. A device that evaluates the stress levels of the body, not of the psyche. You may be able to lie with a casual smile, but not with an agitated heart rate.
If you want to detect lies easily and reliably, a polygraph lie detector is the ideal solution.
